Home theatre cost in India (2026): a clear price guide

A good home theatre in India costs anywhere from about ₹85,000 to well over ₹10 lakh. The difference comes down to four things: how many speakers, how they are installed, the room itself, and whether anyone tunes the system after it is fitted. This guide explains each so you can plan a budget with confidence.

Quick answer: typical budgets

SetupBest forTypical installed budget
Soundbar + subwooferSmall bedrooms, rented homes₹25,000 – ₹80,000
5.1 surround (5 speakers + 1 subwoofer)Living rooms up to ~250 sq ft₹85,000 – ₹2,00,000
5.1.2 / 7.1 / Dolby AtmosLarger living rooms, family rooms₹2,00,000 – ₹6,00,000
Dedicated home theatre roomA separate room with acoustic treatment₹6,00,000 and above

These are installed prices with wiring and setup. The TV or projector is extra. EvenSound packages start at ₹85,000 for a tuned 5.1 system.

Where the money goes

  • Speakers (35–45% of the budget). Front speakers matter most, because almost all dialogue and most of the music comes from the front three. Spend here first.
  • Subwoofer (10–20%). One good subwoofer beats two cheap ones. Its placement matters as much as its size.
  • Amplifier or AV receiver (15–25%). It decodes 5.1/Atmos and powers the speakers. Make sure it has room correction and HDMI eARC.
  • Wiring and installation (10–15%). Concealed cables, wall and ceiling cut-outs, brackets and conduits.
  • Calibration (5–10%). Measuring the room and setting delays, levels and EQ. It is often skipped, and it is the cheapest way to make an expensive system sound right.

Hidden costs to ask about

  • False-ceiling work for ceiling or Atmos speakers, and repainting afterwards.
  • Wall chasing for concealed wires, if no conduits exist.
  • Extra power points and a stabiliser or UPS line for the amplifier.
  • Acoustic panels or rugs and curtains for echoey rooms with hard floors and glass.
  • A universal remote or app control, and annual servicing.

Match the system to your room size

How to get better sound for less

  1. Keep your TV. Put the budget into sound, not a new screen.
  2. Use ceiling speakers for surrounds and Atmos. They hide in the false ceiling and need no stands. See our ceiling speaker guide.
  3. Plan wiring before interiors are finished. Conduits cost very little at that stage and avoid breaking walls later.
  4. Insist on calibration. A measured, tuned mid-range system sounds better than an untuned premium one.
  5. Buy a system designed together. Speakers voiced to match each other make voices sound the same as they move around the room.

Questions to ask any installer

  • Will you measure the room before and after, and show me the result?
  • Is installation, wiring and calibration included in this price?
  • What warranty covers the speakers, the amplifier and the work?
  • Can I add Atmos or more rooms later without starting over?
